Made from ultralight, fast-drying Pertex Equilibrium fabric, the Light 5-Pocket Pants are now available in a wide fit. With five streamlined pockets, they keep hiking essentials organized without adding bulk.
A unique pattern design improves ventilation while supporting easy leg lift and smooth stride, ensuring comfort even in hot conditions.
Spacious yet functional, the wide silhouette is tailored for freedom of movement and long-lasting comfort on the trail.

Form and function
Unmatched comfort
Refined over two years of field testing, these wide hiking pants were developed through two distinct approaches—drawing inspiration from Japanese Monpe, traditional work pants known for their loose fit and ease of movement, and an innovative balloon structure. The result is a fusion of both approaches, creating a proprietary pattern and silhouette that offers exceptional freedom of movement on the trail.
We adjusted the direction and volume of the tucks to create a more relaxed fit around the waist.
Tapered darts at the front hem gradually narrow the width, creating the rounded balloon silhouette.
Pockets for smartphone and maps
Yamatomichi 5-Pocket design can neatly store your map, snack, wallet, and other items you need during hiking, without interfering with your leg movement.
Especially, our smartphone pocket at the side is so well-positioned that it fits your phone while keeping it securely in place without bouncing around when running. The map pocket is large enough to store the water bottle.
1st & 4th pockets
Side pockets designed for easy hand access. The bottom of the pockets uses polyester mesh so water can escape.
2nd pocket
Sized to fit most standard smartphones. Positioned behind the hip bone so it doesn’t interfere with leg movement, stays stable while running, and sits in just the right spot so you won’t end up sitting on your phone.
3rd pocket
Placed slightly higher with a long zipper pull for easy opening and closing—ideal for carrying a wallet and other small valuables.
Key Loop
A longer loop for attaching a mini carabiner or hanging the pants on a hook.
5th pocket
Sized to fit a standard hiking map perfectly, while also accommodating a large-screen smartphone, a compact digital camera, or even a plastic bottle.
Super fast-drying
As the fabric is super thin it dries in no time! The elastic waistband uses mesh material for quicker drying and better comfort when it gets wet from sweat or rain.
Moisture content after 15 minutes of spin-drying
We compared the moisture content remaining in the fabric 15 minutes after spin-drying between the Light 5-Pocket Wide Pants, synthetic fiber base layers, and thin, typical cotton shirts. Lower moisture content indicates faster drying. With a moisture content of 1.7%, the Light 5-Pocket Wide Pants are nearly dry just 15 minutes after being taken out of the washing machine.
5-Pocket lineup
At Yamatomichi, we offer three series of bottoms for the spring, summer, and fall seasons. The original, durable lineup includes the 5-Pocket Pants, Wide Pants, Shorts, and Long Shorts. For those prioritizing lightness and breathability, we offer the Light 5-Pocket Pants, Wide Pants, Shorts, and Short Shorts. Bridging the two is the DW 5-Pocket Pants and Shorts, offering a balanced set of characteristics.
Material
Pertex Equilibrium
The special double-weave structure of Pertex Equilibrium improves comfort and performance by reducing skin contact and enhancing durability. On the reverse side, thicker yarns are woven in regular intervals, creating subtle ridges that lift the fabric away from the skin. This prevents the clammy feeling that can occur in hot or humid conditions.
Although thin and lightweight, the fabric gains strength from the use of thicker yarns in the ripstop backing. The weft incorporates false-twist yarns, giving it a slight two-way stretch that allows for unrestricted leg lift and smooth movement, even during demanding climbs.
In addition, a blend of nylon and polyester yarns is used in parts of the weave. The different dye uptake between the two fibers creates a natural heathered appearance, adding a subtle texture to the fabric’s look and feel.

Notes before use
Durability
The Pertex Equilibrium, the fabric used in the Light 5-Pocket Wide Pants, is very thin and lightweight.
The rip-stop construction provides some strength, but sharp objects such as rocks and branches can scratch and possibly tear the fabric. Please be careful when you walk through rocky ridges or sit down to rest on a rock.

Instructions
Care instructions
- Machine wash below 40°C.
- Use a laundry net or wash separately.
- Line dry in the shade.
- Tumble dry below 60°C.
- Do not bleach and do not use fabric softener.
- Iron on low without steam.
- Do not dry-clean.
- High temperatures may cause shrinkage.
- The fabric may develop snags due to the friction with your body hair.

- We only accept payment by credit card. We currently do not accept payment via bank transfer from overseas accounts.

- Bank transfer is only availble for those that own a Japanese bank account.
Delivery
- Order Confirmation will be sent after the order.
- The items will be dispatched within 3 days after the payment is confirmed.

- The delivery may be delayed by unforeseeable reasons such as natural disasters and other logistics issues. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
- We cannot ship multiple orders in one package due to how our delivery system is currently set up.
- We will ship to regions in North America, Oceania, and Europe (excluding Russia) via DHL. For regions in Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America, Africa, and Russia, we use EMS (International Express Mail Service) for shipping.
- Shipping fees and delivery times vary depending on the shipping destination as well as the size and weight of the items.
Size exchange
- Overseas customers who need to change the size of their order, should note that the time needed for shipping will vary greatly depending on your country of residence.
- We only accept exchanges when the item is unused (except for fitting).
- If you wish to exchange the size of the item, please contact us within seven days of receiving your order.
- Exchanges can only be made for the same color in a different size.
- If the size you wish is out of stock, we will suggest a different color.
- If the product is out of stock, we may simply have to ship the item back to you.
- All shipping costs to be carried by the customer.
- We will only send the exchanged item to you, upon receipt of return shipping cost via PayPal.
- Please be aware that some countries charge customs duties depending on the price of the item.
- We are unable to answer any questions on local customs. Please contact your local customs bureau.
